Live Slope Grating
What is it?
Live slope grating uses a supporting lattice on eroding banks to promote vegetation regrowth. The open areas in the lattice framework provide areas for vegetation to be planted or catches sediment and seed and promotes natural revegetation. This technique can be used on steep slopes.
Conservation Benefits
- Reduces sediment input into streams
- Promotes revegetation of eroding streambanks
What does it include?
A lattice is typically built from a wood framework and installed on an eroding bank. A trench and anchors or used to secure the lattice to the bank and spaces between the lattice are backfilled with soil for vegetation. Live cuttings or transplants can be used to revegetate the bank.
